Free Will: Allowed?

In a brief amount of time, I would like to state my opinion on a certain 'hot topic' of conversation (or maybe not, I dunno). The question is: should morality be enforced? The argument for that might be that there are certain things that are good for all people, and those things (or lack of) should be enforced on everyone. For example, most drugs are not allowed in the United States because it can cause bad health. Cigarette smoking is discouraged (but not illegal, mind you) because of the same reason. Also, gay marriage is still not legal in most of the 50 states. Why is this? Perhaps it is because that homosexuality is an abomination of sorts, against nature and all that. Perhaps it is because children need a parent of both genders, or what have you.

I personally don't agree with those sentiments. I believe that any drug that does not cause you to harm other people (like Marijuana for example), should be legal. Similarly, I oppose efforts to ban the smoking of cigarettes entirely (I support the banning of it in some public places, again so it doesn't harm other people unwillingly). Also, and the most controversial of all, I believe people should be able to do whatever they want with their own body: pierce it, tattoo it, mutilate it or have intercourse with whoever or whatever (as long as it's willingly) in as ridiculous and disgusting ways as they want to. I also believe that two, responsible, sensitive people, no matter what their gender, should be able to marry and adopt a child (there are different studies saying that either homosexual or homosexual parents are more suited for parenting) and raise it as they see fit.

Now, this does not mean I would do these things myself, no, I would not bring my body to that kind of low. I simply believe that people's free will (central to several religions I know of) should be enforced, as long as it does not interfere with others'.

Now, I know that the above is controversial. I delight in controversy, so please comment.

I agree drugs should not be allowed even cigarettes I don't care about free will I care about what good for us. Did you know that about 80% of the smoke we breath by being by smokers. I don't want to cigarettes by me if I can get kill by it even if I'm not the smoker and homosexuality do u know how many families are crushed by that so free will If i was pres. I would make it safer if I had an army for people who hated that idea the army would help me stop them from killing them self with drugs and we would help keep people safe I know I sound unreasonable but the world would a better place without drugs and homosexuality agreed

All I can say that would make sense is, why? Why support things that are morally wrong when you know they're morally wrong?

I support letting people choose for themselves what to do, because for me, it is morally wrong to take away other peoples' free will. I seem to remember that the LDS church places a high value on that particular concept.

I see now. Yeah, I agree that people should have the right to do what they want, but, I'm going to care wheter or not they do. Besides, there are very few choices one can make without affecting anyone else. Drinking alcohol for instance. If I drink a bottle of beer in a bar, my discernment isn't in the norm so I might beat the crap out of someone. Or, I'll think that I can drive home and might kill someone in the process.

In response to your last comment on Harrison's blog, it's cool. I get the whole anger thing. I used to be that way myself. Now I filter it into creative writing.

I also agree with you on how things aren't 50-50 in Utah (This is where I might make fun of my religion a little). Some in the LDS religion believe that Utah is perfect, and those who live there are perfect (I have more to say on that topic but not now). So, we end up with a lot of the same belief in one place and it seriously messes up things such as how states should be 50-50. Even though the Church president has urged its members to get out of Utah, few listened. Utah is it's own world, and everywhere else is the 'missionary field.'

Anyways, I sincerly hope that we can move past any hard feelings we've created in our debates. I have no intentions of creating any sort of enemy.
